Here are summaries of Monday night's four AAA Central Region high school football playoff games.
DIVISION 6
MEADOWBROOK 27, L.C. BIRD 14
A brawl that erupted with 20 seconds left and lasted about five minutes despite efforts by game officials, school officials and coaches to stop it marred the Meadowbrook-Bird high school playoff game.
Behind 14-0, Meadowbrook scored 27 fourth-quarter points for a 27-14 win over L.C. Bird in their Group AAA Division 6 Central Region semifinal game.
Desmond Coble had a 10-yard run and a 65-yard interception return for a TD for Meadowbrook.
Bird finished the season with a 9-2 record. Meadowbrook takes a 9-2 mark into the region's title game.
VARINA 21, HERMITAGE 10
Tre Johnson's 9-yard run and Cory Gay's extra point in overtime gave Varina the victory over Hermitage in their Group AAA Division 6 Central Region semifinal.
Johnson piled up 223 yards rushing on 28 carries.
Hermitage finished its season with an 8-3 record. Varina, top ranked in the Times-Dispatch poll, takes an 11-0 record into the region's title game.
DIVISION 5
DINWIDDIE 38, DOUGLAS FREEMAN 7
Dinwiddie quarterback Adam Morgan led the Dinwiddie Generals in a rout of the Douglas Freeman Rebels in their Group AAA Division 5 Central Region semifinal.
Morgan ran for one touchdown and threw for three more.
Freeman finished the season with a 7-4 record. Dinwiddie takes a 10-1 record into the region's title game.
HANOVER 24, MONACAN 14
The second-seeded Hanover Hawks scored 10 points before their game with Monacan was four minutes old and went on to a 24-14 victory in their Group AAA Division 5 Central Region semifinal game.
Rachel Moore opened the Hanover scoring with a 23-yard field goal to make it 3-0
The Hawks squibbed the ensuing kickoff, and Aaron Gary recovered it for Hanover at the Chiefs 37. Josh Wells' 32-yard pass to Ross Scarborough set up Chris Lee's 2-yard TD run.
Down 10-0 before they had ever had the ball, Monacan could never quite catch up against the tough Hanover defense.
Monacan finished with 139 total yards. Hanover gained 383 on the night.
Monacan finished with a 7-4 record. Hanover takes an 8-3 mark into the region's title game.
