Pamplin Leader Award winner at Hermitage is named
Samantha Stephenson is the recipient of the 2009 Pamplin Leader Award at Hermitage High School in Henrico County. The Pamplin Leader is a one-year $1,000 tuition scholarship to Virginia Tech. It is presented annually to a top student from each public high school in Virginia. It was established by Robert B. Pamplin Sr. (VT, Class of ‘33) and Robert B. Pamplin Jr., to acknowledge students for academic achievement, community service and leadership experience.

Former Cavalier Fitzgerald enjoys return visit

High school notes
Basketball coaching vacancies have opened at Hermitage and Mills Godwin. Health is a factor in both situations. Joe Coulter has resigned as the Hermitage boys coach after a seven-year run. The Panthers compiled a 113-60 record during his tenure. The Panthers won three Colonial District titles, and Coulter was district coach of the year three times.

Student charged with hitting vice principal
Hermitage student accused of sl apping vice principal faces assa ult count A Hermitage High School student was charged with assaulting a vice principal at the school on Wednesday, police said. Jessie Lynn Shelton, 18, of the 10100 block of Flanders Road was arrested after he allegedly slapped the school administrator around 11 a.m., said Henrico County police spokesman Lt. Doug Perry.

Hermitage Hall ceremony tonight
The newest members of the Hermitage High Athletic Hall of Fame will be inducted in a ceremony tonight at 7:30 in the school auditorium. Admission is free. The inductees are Danny Collawn (Class of 1995), an all-district, all-region and all-state wrestler; Joi Irby (1999), an all-district and all-region basketball player, who went on to play at Georgetown University; and David Boyden (1998), the center on Hermitage’s region basketball runner-up team in 1998. He was all-district, all-region and All-Metro and was an all-conference selection at Western Kentucky University, where he is now an assistant coach.

Down 37-31 at halftime, J.R. Tucker’s Breana Spencer scored 13 points in the third quarter and Sarah Parsons scored nine points in the fourth quarter to lead the No. 8 Tigers past Hermitage.
