Being white, I confess I have been slow to understand the historical significance of the election of Obama. I did not vote for him, but from the ‘get-go’ my reason has been I do not agree with his politics. His race has never factored into my opinion of him. I have defended him from the ‘yahoos’ that do want to make his race and his middle name an ‘issue’, but I still opposed him becoming President for his politics. I am working to overcome generations of prejudice. I wish the opposition would do the same and not trot out ‘racism’ as the reason for why I do not agree with them. When THAT happens, then we’re getting somewhere.
