Here's a snapshot of emergency calls during the week of Dec. 15-22, as reported by Metro Richmond fire departments.
RICHMOND
Fire Calls: 125 Emergency Medical Calls: 362 EMS: Cardiac arrest (8), chest pain (55), breathing problems (134), shootings (5), stabbings (5), unconsciousness (48).
Significant Events:
Fire: 6901 Marlowe Road, apartment fire. Fire in the walls with extension to a second apartment. One animal perished. Undetermined.
Fire: 1902 Conrad St., house fire. Significant damage; two adults displaced. Crews rescued and resuscitated a dog. Under investigation.
Fire: 1215 Admiral Gravely Blvd., kitchen fire. Residents displaced. Cause: plastic container in the oven.
Fire: 316 W. 25th St. Fire in the furnace under the house. Cause: electrical.
CHESTERFIELD
Fire Calls: 213 Emergency Medical Calls: 410
Significant Events:
Fire: 11100 block of Northborough Lane, single-family dwelling. Two people transported to the hospital. Cause: short-circuited electrical device.
Fire: 5500 block of Heatherhill Drive, single-family dwelling. Significant damage; no injures. Under investigation.
Fire: 9500 block of River Road, single-family dwelling. No injuries.
Fire: 7300 block of Winterleaf Court, single-family dwelling. Fire in the chimney.
Fire: 4200 block of Richwine Road, single-family dwelling. Fire in the chimney.
HENRICO
Fire Calls: 149 Emergency Medical Calls: 442
Significant Events:
Fire: 200 block of North Juniper, single-family dwelling. No injuries. Significant damage; accidental.
Fire: 1500 block of Whatley Street, kitchen fire. Two adults and three children assisted by Red Cross. No injuries. Accidental; unattended cooking.
Fire: 2400 block of Granville Street, single-family dwelling. Bedroom fire. Family assisted by Red Cross. No injuries; accidental.
HANOVER
Fire Calls: 116 Emergency Medical Calls: 174 EMS: Cardiac arrest (1), diabetic emergencies (5), chokings (2).
Significant Events:
Fire: 7900 block of Meadow Lane; kitchen fire. Extensive damage.
Fire: Shea Tree Court; house fire. Extensive damage.
Smoke: 13200 block of Mountain Road; house.
FIRE SAFETY
Have working smoke detectors on every floor and near the sleeping areas of your home.
Consider placing smoke detectors in basement areas to increase your chances of detecting smoke conditions in the home.
