CHECK -- Virginia State Police say a trooper shot and killed a Patrick County man who drove a car toward officers and struck two police cars.
Sgt. Rob Carpentieri said the shooting occurred last night as the trooper and three Floyd County sheriff's deputies responded to a disturbance call at a home near Check. He said the home belongs to the man's mother and stepfather.
Carpentieri said the trooper shot 33-year-old Vincent James Lumia III after Lumia drove his car toward approaching deputies and hit the police cars.
The trooper, who is not being identified, is a 27-year state police veteran. Police said he was placed on leave.

That’s the Trooper’s story, now let’s hear the other side. Oh, that’s right, we can’t—he’s dead.
