-- Richmond's mayor has named a new spokeswoman.

Mayor Dwight C. Jones announced today that Tammy D. Hawley, a native of Richmond, will serve as his press secretary starting Monday.

Hawley attended John Marshall High School and earned a bachelor of science degree from Virginia Commonwealth University's School of Business.

According to a press release from the mayor's office, her other qualifications include training from the Executive Leadership Institute at Indiana University, and serving as chief operating officer and chief development officer for the NAACP and as the executive general manager for the Afro-American Newspapers Company.

Hawley is founder and president of The Hawley Group.

"Tammy Hawley's substantial experience in the public and private sector will serve the City well," Jones said in a statement. "She will provide a comprehensive approach to city communications that will help our services and our messages. I am pleased that she has accepted this essential position in my administration."

Larry, you’ve brought up an excellent point. I think we should all be able to identify henchmen, toadies, cronies and minions. You know, they don’t wear shirts clearly identifying themselves like they did when Batman was on television. I think the government should publish some sort of document that helps all of us identify and distinguish between henchmen, toadies, cronies and minions.

Ok so far, I guess. At least Jones looks like he’s filling positions—instead of forming a squad of henchmen. Just my opinion.

RED FLAG: Worked for the NAACP!!! We all know what an outstanding, efficient, well oiled machine the NAACP is with their finances. MEMO TO THE MAYOR: Keep her away from an unlocked cash register and the receipt book. I’m telling you, you’ll regret it.

Seriously, the NAACP is notorious for poor book keeping, financial mismanagement and violating just about every principle of GAAP. I know, I used to be a member.
