Contribute to a Thanksgiving meal for those in need today through Monday at the Chesterfield County Fairgrounds.
The Chesterfield Colonial Heights Alliance for Social Ministry will accept donations of food and money today and tomorrow from 12:30 to 4 p.m. and Monday from 8 to 11 a.m. Meal packages will be distributed Monday and Tuesday from noon to 6 p.m. to Chesterfield residents who have signed up in advance.
The complete meal package includes cans of sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, corn, green vegetables and gravy; boxes of mashed potatoes, stuffing and hot chocolate mix; a jar of iced tea mix; a family dessert item; and a $20 gift certificate to spend on meat, eggs or other perishables.
Donations of other food items also will be accepted and distributed to county food pantries. CCHASM helped 1,895 needy residents at Thanksgiving last year and hopes to have enough for 2,000 people this year.

If you find it hard to believe that there are those in Chesterfield that need help, wake up. Do not let your opinion of the people who run the county keep you from giving to people who need food. My family member works for CCHHASM and works hard with true dedication to helping those who have no where to turn. Never fool yourself that one day you might be in need and that hand there will be open for you. Please make a difference and just let go of the anger and help someone just once…hope and love can change this world we all have to share. If you can give, be grateful that you can and thankful that you are blessed.

How can there possibly be “families in need” in Chesterfield County?
Didn’t we just read how the County’s Administrator turned all snooty and described his County as “the area’s ‘most affluent’” ... and that house prices [and forthcoming assessments] have risen during 2008?
I guess if I was paid $300,000 a year in salary and fringes, and whatever else I was given as “gifts” ... and my direct reports made only 20% less ... I too would think the world was “rosy”.
The County’s Board and the top layer of administration need to be kicked out onto the streets.
