Leadership will remain the same for the Chesterfield County Board of Supervisors this year.
At its annual organizational meeting today, the board elected veteran supervisor A.S. "Art" Warren, the Clover Hill representative, to return as chairman for 2009. Midlothian Supervisor Daniel A. Gecker will again serve as vice chairman.
"I know it's a challenging year for the county, but working together, we'll do extremely well," Warren said.
Both votes were 4-1, with Matoaca District supervisor Marleen K. Durfee dissenting. She offered Gecker as chairman and Dale District supervisor Jim Holland as vice chairman.
Warren, 65, is a 20-year veteran of the board and works for the Virginia Department of Emergency Management. Gecker, 52, a lawyer, was elected to the board in 2007 after having served on the county's Planning Commission.

But think of the perks!
Jumbo TV’s at the BOS meetings and WIFI everywhere!
We are on the cutting edge of self indulgence.
Someone has to devise these state of the art schemes and purchase and maintain the expensive equipment.
So we can watch and monitor the dithering.
There is always a tipping point in tolerance and the in your face (literally) obvious extravagance of the two electronic money gobblers was that point for many of us.
Who is supervising the toy purchasing budget out there?
They do not seem to be IN FOCUS with the great plan.

Forget about growth and dithering issues.
The most pressing issue is downsizing the bloated Chesterfield County administration. Need to repost 80% of the jobs filled within last five years at 60% of the pay scale, eliminate the other 20%. The Director of Economic Development position is a joke costing the County ~$250,000 in salary/fringes. For all but policemen, firemen, and teachers, a 10% cut in salaries, 20% for those whose salary/fringe package exceeds $200,000 [that’s about two dozen employees].
But the Board acts impotent in taking on the inept County Administrator, who was hand picked by his predecessor and the prior [since ousted] Board.

Remember “Come Grow With Us?“
Ms. Durfee the Deferment Queen.
She was leading the “charge to denisfy”
the County.
“New Urbanism” were the buzz words.
It certainly is not her fault that the country has suffered from the bursting of the housing bubble but she and her HAL pals from the sprawl on the lake have tried to shut Chesterfield down for the duration.
Watch the meetings on the Chesterfield Connections web site and observe Ms. Durfees rather incoherent approach to problem solving and decide for yourself whether she is a true independent or merely a mulish ditherer.

Or, maybe that’s why the people who voted for here like her…because she doesn’t just go along with the rest of the pack like a bunch.
Keep up the good work, Marlene!

Is Dufus Durfee capable of agreeing with anyone about anything? Or is her ego so monumental and all-encompassing that she just has to stand out?
