Police are investigating the discovery of a body in the James River at Deep Bottom Park and Boat Landing in eastern Henrico County.

A police spokesman said a call yesterday at 3:26 p.m. reported that two fishermen had found a body. No details about the cause of death or condition of the body were available. Police would not say whether the person was male or female.

The body has been turned over to the state medical examiner's office.

The park is located along an unusually deep section of the James River at Four Mile Creek near Curles Neck.

Who said the river there is “unusually deep” ? Deep Bottom is not any deeper than most of the sections in the lower James. I have dove there before. There are a lot of places twice as deep as Deep Bottom not too far away.
