HAMPTON -- Hampton University's marching band is one of three Virginia groups gearing up for President-elect Barack Obama's inaugural parade next week.
Hampton University Marching Force will appear in the parade in Washington on Jan. 20. It will play four songs, including Stevie Wonder's "Signed, Sealed, Delivered," which became an Obama campaign theme song.
Three groups from Virginia were chosen out of the more than 1,380 applicants to appear in the inaugural parade. The other Virginia groups are the Virginia Military Institute Corps of Cadets and the Army JROTC from T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria.

I was very disappointed in the committee’s decision for the units from Virginia participating in the inaugural parade. VMI and their good ol’ boy views is very surprising. While other Senior Military Colleges in Virginia are making great strides every year VMI still relies heavely on legacies. Has VMI even had a female cadet commander? I know of one Senior Military College in Virginia that has had a female cadet commander that also happen to be African American, she also did a great job. And that same Corps currently has a cadet commander that is from Jordan and is very capable. That same Corps also commissions at least 80% while some only commission around 30%. Oh well, better luck next time.
