Q:My Mickey Mouse child's tea set was given to me by my mother. The nine pieces are marked "Walt Disney Corp." What is it worth? -- J.R.
Answer: The Walt Disney company needs no introduction. It began merchandising Mickey Mouse from the beginning, after the release of the cartoon short Steamboat Willie in 1928.
This porcelain lusterware child's tea set probably was manufactured during the 1930s in Japan. Similar sets also were made in Germany. Most of the sets were boxed and offered for sale in five and dime stores and by other retailers. It would retail for about $95.
Q:I inherited my oak hall tree. It is in great condition, including the original beveled mirror. What is its value? B.M.
Answer: Your oak hall seat was manufactured around the turn of the century. It has more machine carving than usual. These useful pieces are quite popular. This is a nice example that is above the ordinary. It would retail for about $1,000.
