So much for the legacy of Carson Daly. MTV has sounded the death knell on its countdown show, "Total Request Live," which has aired for 10 years. The executive producer of the show, which flourished during the boy band era of the late-'90s, said "TRL" will end with a two-hour special on a Saturday in November. The show supposedly isn't ending permanently, just taking a break. . . . Stephen Colbert will celebrate the holidays with "A Colbert Christmas: The Greatest Gift of All!" a special starring Elvis Costello, Toby Keith, John Legend and Willie Nelson. The show will air Nov. 23 on Comedy Central. . . . Metallica is back with roar. The band's "Death Magnetic," released last Friday, is topping the album charts with more than 510,000 sold. . . . John Mayer's summer tour wrapped at the end of August, but fans can click on the "tour" tab at www.johnmayer.com to find audio recordings and photos from many shows. . . . AC/DC has its own channel on Sirius and XM Satellite Radio through January. AC/DC Radio (channel 29 on Sirius, channel 53 on XM) will feature the band's music 24/7, interviews and previews of October's "Black Ice" album.

ON TV

Today: Nelly performs on Ellen; Dave Stewart chats on "The View"; Hawthorne Heights performs on Jay Leno; Good Charlotte hangs with Jimmy Kimmel.

Tomorrow: Jennifer Hudson visits "Good Morning America," while Ruben Studdard and Kimberly Locke are on "Today"; Duffy sings for David Letterman; Cold War Kids are on Kimmel.

Saturday: Kings of Leon perform on "Saturday Night Live."

First single, "Love Story," is there now. The physical release will also be available as a $75 boxed set with a T-shirt, photo album and other goodies. . . .
