Richmond police today identified the 18-year-old Henrico County man who died after he fell off the Lee Bridge late Saturday night in downtown Richmond.

Police spokesman Gene Lepley identified the man as Virgil Reid McGarity Jr. of Belhaven Court in western Henrico. According to a police report, McGarity apparently fell after he tried to jump between the bridge's northbound and southbound spans, which are separated by an open space of a few feet.
