A Petersburg man died yesterday morning in a motorcycle crash on U.S. 460 in Dinwiddie County.

Gary D. Stockford, 56, died at the scene of the crash, which is estimated to have occurred shortly after 1 a.m. about a mile west of state Route 608, state police said.

Police were called to the scene shortly before 5 a.m. and found that a 2007 Harley-Davidson had been traveling east on Route 460 when it went off the right side of the road and overturned, throwing Stockford.

The wreck was investigated by trooper C.R. Garrett. The crash remains under investigation.
