A Buckingham County supervisor charged with driving under the influence has been sentenced to four days in jail on a lesser charge.
According to court records, Supervisor Joe N. Chambers Jr.'s charge was reduced to reckless driving July 25. He was sentenced to 90 days in jail, with 86 days suspended.
It could not be determined if Chambers has served the sentence.
The Dillwyn resident also was fined $250, records show, and his license was suspended for six months.
Police pulled Chambers over April 7 on state Route 20 and charged him with DUI, according to court records. His case was delayed several times before being settled last month.
A phone call to Chambers' home was not immediately returned.
His defense attorney, J.R. Snoddy III, declined comment. Buckingham Commonwealth's Attorney E.M. Wright Jr. could not be reached for comment.
However, Chambers isn't done attending court. According to court records, he was charged with following too closely this summer.
Sgt. Dave Cooper of the Virginia State Police said Chambers was involved in a lunchtime accident June 1 at Route 20 and U.S. 15. According to Cooper, Chambers' car hit another car that was stopped at a stop sign. No one was injured in the incident.
