RICHMOND --Some veterans whose high school education was disrupted by war are finally getting their diplomas.

Honorary high school diplomas will be awarded to a group of veterans during a ceremony Aug. 16 at Nandua High School in Onle, on Virginia's Eastern Shore.

The ceremony will be hosted by the Virginia Department of Veterans Services and the Virginia Employment Commission.

The diplomas are awarded to veterans who couldn't complete their high school education because of their military service during the World War II, the Korean War or the Vietnam War.

The Department of Veterans Services says more than 1,000 veterans have received honorary diplomas since the program began in 2001.
