Start your Memorial Day weekend with a step back to the past May 24 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. as the 7th Virginia Regiment of the Continental Line returns to Gloucester. They were here in 1776, and they are back!

Authentically costumed re-enactors will be encamped on the historic Court Circle, Main Street, in Gloucester. Youth are invited to participate by "enlisting" in the Continental Army and learning basic marching commands. Experience camp life, and visit with Dr. Bloodsworth, an 18th-century dentist/pharmacist/physician.

New this year is the firing of a "galloper" cannon. A fashion show enlightens you to the many pieces to a lady's and a soldier's wardrobe.

The public is encouraged to participate. All those recruited for service will receive a certificate.

Also included in the day's activities will be a wreath-laying ceremony in honor of the members of the 7th Virginia Regiment who served from Gloucester and the surrounding counties.

The event is sponsored by Parks, Recreation & Tourism.
