Carytown Watermelon Festival

10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Why: Every summer, thousands of Richmonders flock to the annual Carytown Watermelon Festival for a day of music, summer sales and watermelon.

The festival takes place on West Cary Street between Nansemond Street and Colonial Avenue.

Arts and crafts, sidewalk sales and plenty of free events and music along 10 stages set the atmosphere for the event.

Richmonders can also find food from Carytown area eateries either in the restaurants or available from the many street vendors.

The watermelon sales benefit the Shriners Hospitals for Children or the Acca Transportation Fund.
