Sarah Vinegar of Glen Allen, Va., a rising sophomore at Washington and Lee University, was recently inducted into Phi Eta Sigma national honor society.

To be eligible for Phi Eta Sigma, a student must be in the top 20 percent of the class at the end of the first term of his or her first year. Ninety-six W&L first-year students were initiated at a ceremony May 2 at the Lexington, Va., university.

"The quality and caliber of our student profile continue to improve, and the academic accomplishments of the first-year class are very impressive. Many of these students will obtain further academic accolades and even prestigious graduate fellowships as they progress through their undergraduate years at Washington and Lee," said David Leonard, associate dean of student affairs and dean of first-year students, and adviser to the W&L chapter of Phi Eta Sigma.

Vinegar is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jon Vinegar of Glen Allen.
