Hindu temple drawings soon will go to Henrico

Plans for the Hindu Center of Virginia's new temple are progressing, according to an update from the center's board of trustees chairman, Jayesh Kapadia.

The design and drawing phase of the 8,500-square-foot temple in Glen Allen is nearly complete, and drawings soon will be submitted to Henrico County for approval and issuance of a building permit, Kapadia wrote in the center's July newsletter.

Plans call for the $4 million structure to be built according to the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design standards.

Leader named to Office for Hispanic Apostolate

Erik Giblin will start work Monday as the new director of the Catholic Diocese of Richmond's Office for the Hispanic Apostolate.

Giblin, a 36-year-old California native, comes to the Rich-mond area from Northern Virginia, where he taught Spanish at Annandale High School, according to a profile of him in The Catholic Virginian newspaper.

He previously worked as a program officer with the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Center for Human Rights in Washington, where he was responsible for developing, coordinating and implementing human-rights campaigns and projects in the U.S., Colombia, Guatemala and Vietnam, according to the article by Stephen S. Neill.

Governments are focus of metro prayer effort

Hundreds of churches participating in the yearlong Metro Richmond at Prayer project are focusing on governments and governing bodies this month.

Next week's prayer is: "We pray for governments and governing bodies of metropolitan Richmond: for the supervisors of Henrico County, the county administrator, and all county employees."
