Welcome to Shenandoah Shakespeare's American Shakespeare Center (ASC), a national Shakespeare resource for audiences, actors, students, scholars, and educators. We tour internationally and perform in repertory in historic Staunton, Virginia at Blackfriars Playhouse, the world's only re-creation of William Shakespeare's original indoor theatre. In our hometown of Staunton, Virginia, Shenandoah Shakespeare has constructed a re-creation of Shakespeare's original indoor theatre, the Blackfriars Playhouse, and also has plans to build an open-air replica of London's second Globe Theatre, which was built in 1613 after the original 1599 structure burned to the ground. The Blackfriars is open year-round for Shakespeare productions, as well as for special musical and theatrical events. Additionally, the theatre is open for tours, workshops, and educational programs. The nonresident company, Shenandoah Shakespeare Express (currently the most active touring Shakespeare company in the world) will continue touring.
