The Booker T. Washington National Monument honors the birthplace of one of the most important African-Americans in the nation. Learn about the man who would later found the Tuskegee Institute, and become a leader as he fought to provide an education to all African-Americans. Visitors are invited to step back in time and experience firsthand the life and landscape of people who lived in an era when slavery was part of the fabric of American life. | Blue Ridge Institute |
The Blue Ridge Institute is another great place to step back in time and get a first-hand experience of life in Appalachian America in the early 1800's. See what it was like as costumed intpreterers go about their daily lives. Also, be sure to come to the Blue Ridge Folklife Festival, hosted by adjacent Ferrum College as well as the Blue Ridge Institute. It takes place annually on the 4th Saturday in October.
