For 16 years, Dave Rennolds happily fed a lengthy line of downtown employees.

In fact, it was a rare occasion - or post prime lunchtime - to not see a stream of people on the sidewalk outside Café Ole, at 2 N. 6th St.

That part likely won't change.

But on July 1, Rennolds' life got a readjustment when he sold the funky little burrito haven to Betsy Thomas, formerly of Betsy's Coffee House in Carytown.

"I just needed to get my life back," Rennolds said, "This kind of job is all-encompassing. It's an opportunity to take a break from it all."

Rennolds has no immediate plans for another restaurant venture - and says you'll probably still see him hanging around his old haunt, helping out when he can.

There are also no plans to alter Café Ole's menu or attitude in any way, although Thomas plans to start opening 30 minutes earlier - at 11 a.m. - in the next few weeks.

"She seems like a good person to keep it going," Rennolds said. "She's got a lot more energy."

The Beach House Bar & Grille has opened at 4040 Cox Road in the Shoppes at Innsbrook.

Patrons of the area will recall that the spot last housed Carytown Seafood at Innsbrook Restaurant and Market, which closed this spring.

The Beach House is the latest baby of Chris, Dan and Mike Stewart, the brothers who opened Innsbrook's Pita Pit in 2002, and followed that in 2005 with Short Pump's popular sports bar, The Pour House.

The vibe of The Beach House is exactly what you might guess: lots of umbrellas and casual wear, as well as a menu featuring OBX Fish Tacos ($9.49), Island Quesadilla ($8.99) and Rasta Pasta (seasoned shrimp and chicken in a spicy marinara sauce for $12.99).

There are also plenty of sandwiches, burgers and salads for the less adventurous.

This fall, The Beach House will offer a dueling piano show on the weekends called "The Keys."
